This historic encounter brings together two of the ten founder members of the Spanish league, Espanyol, ranked sixth all-time in the competition, and Real Sociedad from San Sebastian in the Basque Country, who are ranked eighth. It was against Real that Espanyol recorded their joint highest win ever in La Liga, 8-0 in 1940, but although a repeat of that result would obviously delight the home fans, they will be quite happy settling for the three points against one of the most competitive teams in the championship. Home advantage makes the parakeets the slight favourites, but this is a game that could end up going either way.
