These may not be the two best-known Spanish clubs, but both of them were founder members of the championship in 1928. Espanyol have generally had the upper hand since then, but lost in their most famous encounter in 1993, a promotion play off that saw the Cantabrians return to the first division and Espanyol get relegated for the fourth and, to date, last time in their history. Racing have been spending heavily of late, but are still one of the perennial strugglers in La Liga, and anything other than three points will be considered a huge disappointment for Espanyol.
