In between all of Real Madrid’s confidence-building soundbites as the title race truly begins, it has been said by those not with Bernabeu blinkers on that Barca have the easiest run-in.

That may not be kind on the clubs that the Blaugrana have left to play, but the harsh reality is that it is true.

In a season that has been dubbed the most open and exciting for decades, when in truth it looks set to be the least bad team will win rather than the best, Frank Rijkaard’s side still have it firmly in their hands.

Luis Aragones, for all his other unseemly views, once wisely said that the league title comes down to which team is the most consistent in the final ten matches of the season.

The visit of Levante is Barca’s seventh from last outing and gives them a chance to put the defeat against Villarreal behind them.

On paper it appears to be a complete mis-match, but in reality defeating the Valencia-based visitors could be a trickier task than many expect.

Abel Resino took over from former Madrid boss, Juan Ramon Lopez Caro, in January and hopes were high that he was about to turn the club’s fortunes around.

An away day victory against Real Madrid was followed by a win against high-flying Recreativo and survival looked to be a cert.

Instead, that victory against the Andalucians on February 11 was the last time that the team tasted victory.

Nine games later and Levante are currently in the 18th place and in real trouble and have to pick up as many points as they can to maintain their top flight status.

A trip to Camp Nou only a few short weeks ago would fill the opposition with fear. but if Resino and his players watched Barca s last home game against Mallorca they may fancy their chances of earning at least a draw.

A tepid display, by the Blaugrana’s standards, saw them snatch all three points with a very late own goal by their    former    defender, Fernando Navarro.

Defeat in El Madrigal last Sunday has seen the Madridbased media whip themselves into a complete frenzy over the fact that the worst team ever to don the club’s all white outfits could actually snatch the title. This weekend that could all change if Barca win and Madrid lose at Athletic, of course.
