Spanish ACB basketball - Sunday December 3 at 12.30, FC Barcelona v Caja San Fernando Tickets / Euroleague basketball - Thursday December 7 at 20.45, FC Barcelona v Aris Salonika Tickets
December 1, 2006 on 11:38 am | In Uncategorized |It’s as if Barga have two teams this year. One is the one that’s playing in Europe, and is currently 5-0 in what in theory should be a difficult group and well on course for a Top 16 berth.
The other is the one that’s playing in the domestic ACB league and is currently in the wrong half of the table with a 4-6 record and looked positively amateur last week as they crashed 90-73 to league leaders Real Madrid. Barga v Madrid on the basketball court is meant to be one of the pinnacles of Spanish sport, but the way Barga just let themselves get overrun by Madrid without so much as looking like they were interested was very disturbing indeed. We said it last week, and we’ll say it again now. The fact is that the current Barga team is jam-packed with some of the best players in the European game, and they have only come here with one purpose in mind. They want to have Euroleague winners medals draped around their necks in May. The Spanish league for them is just an irritating inconvenience along the way. And it is all too painfully obvious. So don’t waste your money watching them play Caja San Fernando of Seville, and save your cents instead to watch basketball being played the way it should as they face Aris Salonika of Greece on Thursday 7th. The venue is the Palau Blaugrana, next to the Camp Nou.
