Spanish singer, and one of the biggest and best around. Not really the kind of thing for tourists over on a stag night, but fantastic if you’ve lived here long enough to learn some of the language and appreciate this guy’s terrific songwriting skills. Spain’s answer to Tom Waits or somebody like that, his songs ooze of supping glasses of whisky on your own in a bar, thinking of what could have been. Anybody Polish or Serbian could probably do with a bit of this after their sorry World Cups.

Probably the most famous Colombian woman ever, and the woman to have the most chart success with Spanish language songs in the USA and a whole lot of other countries besides. Also has some horny dance moves that made anything Madonna or Kylie have ever done look positively amateur. She’s a talented lass, most of her music is self-penned, some from when she was only eight. For somebody who was kicked out the school choir coz her voice was so awful she hasn’t done badly for herself and the Palau will be packed for this.

Gig of the week lads, if you can bear to tear yourself away from the World Cup for an evening. Along with Nirvana and Pearl Jam, one of the biggest bands to emerge from Seattle’s magic grunge years, but we wondered if we would ever hear from them again when lead vocalist Layne Staley copped it after an overdose in 2002 (on the 8th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death).
Lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell now does the singing too, and the band has yet to release any new materials since the loss of its iconic frontman.

Well, he was going to come at some point, and here he is. And, yes, he’ll be bringing that song with him. We all know the one. The one that, did you know, made him the first Brit to top the US charts since Elton John in 1997. Some interesting facts: he was in the military before and served at the Queen Mum’s funeral, the term ‘James’ is now accepted as cocjney rhyming slang (work it out), and he told American TV that You’re Beautiful is the true story of when he saw his ex-girlfriend at a subway station with another man.

This date is a bit of a last minute addition to their European tour, but hey, here they go again on their own. All that really matters is that David Coverdale is still there, because the rest of the band has been chopped and changed so often that there has never really been such a thing as an ‘original’ Whitesnake line-up. Ah, you can’t go wrong with a bit of this, so let’s sing it one more time… Is this love that I’m feeling, Is this the love, that I’ve been searching for… Class.

I wanna know what love is, I want you to show. But there isn’t much left of the band that also brought us such plastic rock classics as Cold as Ice and Waiting For a Girl Like You. Lou Gramm has been replaced by Kelly Hansen (formerly of Hurricane) on lead vocals, and most of the other band members have changed too. Then again, we never knew who they were anyway…
