Pure blood mestizo project, led by the charismatic Amparo Mercedes Sanchez, which won Radio 3’s award for best European World Music Band in 2005. Living in Spain though, it’s kind of hard to understand how this very modern Spanish sound can be placed in that very ambiguous category of ‘world’ music, which basically seems to refer to anything that the Anglo Saxons aren’t used to.

If anybody knows Staines, you would hardly consider it to be the cultural capital of England, but it has finally produced something of note in Hard-Fi. The indie group’s
Stars of CCTV debut album was released last year, and climbed and climbed as they achieved more and more recognition, eventually hitting the number one spot last month. They’ve supported Green Day and had a top ten hit in Hard To Beat, and this is a gig any self-respecting music fan will not want to miss.

This indie band from Ealing, London went down a storm at Glastonbury last year and 2006 could be their year. They walked out on a Top of the Pops appearance in August after the presenter made a joke about some of the members being a bit on the large side.

Finnish act, who were originally called His Infernal Majesty, but dropped the name after being misconceived in too many quarters as a satanic band, which they are not. They’re a hard band to classify, they have a huge Goth following, but are not exactly a Goth band either, preferring to call their music ‘love metal’. And they have done very nicely for themselves in the USA.

25/02: Kaiser Chiefs + We Are Scientists + The Chalets Tickets

The Chiefs, surely the only major rock band to have been named after a South African football club, have kept their promise and play Barcelona after their November gig was cancelled due to the band going down with a rare virus. Since then, the Kaisers have collected the Best Group, Best British Rock Act and Best Live Act at the recent Brit awards. Songs like / Predict a Riot, Everyday I Love You Less and Less and Oh My God mean we are talking about one of the most happening things in music right now.
